Family Owned and Operated Yak Farm in Minnesota
Welcome! Clear Spring Farm is located on 40 acres in southeast Minnesota, near Welch, about 45 miles south of the Twin Cities and 45 miles north of Rochester. Our yaks are delightful, multipurpose animals that cater to a niche market for fiber enthusiasts, farmers, and food lovers alike. We primarily raise yaks for their luxurious fiber, which is harvested each spring and transformed into a variety of products, including yarn and roving. Yak fiber is comparable to cashmere; it is incredibly soft, hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking, and lanolin-free. In addition to fiber, Clear Spring Farm processes several yaks each year for meat, which is sold to local restaurants and customers. Yak meat is dark red, high in protein, low in saturated fat, low in cholesterol, and rich in omega fats. It has a slightly sweet flavor and lacks the gamey taste often associated with other meats, making it a wonderful alternative to conventional beef for health-conscious individuals, food enthusiasts, and artisan chefs. If you are interested in purchasing your own yak, Clear Spring Farm offers starter herds and pets for sale.
